Yoga During Pregnancy

Health problems are common duringpregnancy. It is important to realize that pregnancy places a large amount of stress on the body, creating muscle aches and a sore back. It’s common to have mood swings during pregnancy, because of hormonal changes that affect your levels of neurotransmitters (chemical messengers in the brain) and the broad range of feelings you may have about becoming a parent. Pregnancy can be a positive time, but not always, and not for every woman. About one woman in 10 suffers from bouts of depression during pregnancy. Is there any solution for these problems? Fortunately the answer is YES! And the solution is not traditional medication. The solution is thousands years old discipline called “Yoga”. Yes, yoga is the most natural and side effect free solution to these problems. But DO NOT forget to discuss with your doctor before starting practice yoga during pregnancy and do not avoid any prescribed medication. Here is a list of some yoga poses that can help fight physio-emotional problems during pregnancy.

Chair Pose

Chair pose, is an asana that works your thighs, ankles, calves and spine and stretches the shoulders and chest. The deeper you sink into this pose, the more you use your muscles. You can also shift your weight to the balls of your feet, sitting your buttocks on your heels. This variation demands greater balance and concentration.

Angle pose

Stimulates abdominal organs, ovaries and prostate gland, bladder, and kidneys . Stimulates the heart and improves general circulation. Stretches the inner thighs, groins, and knees. Helps relieve mild depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Therapeutic for flat feet, high blood pressure, infertility, and asthma. Consistent practice of this pose until late into pregnancy is said to help ease childbirth. Traditional texts say that Baddha Konasana destroys disease and gets rid of fatigue.

Butterfly Pose

Here’s yet another blissful hip opener and probably one of the most recognizable yoga poses out there. It is important that while in this pose you are very mindful of how you feel to make sure you do not push yourself too far.

Cat Pose

Cat pose brings flexibility to the spine. It helps to strengthen wrists and shoulders. Massaging the digestive organs it improves digestion. Tones the abdomen. Another great benefit of Cat pose is that it relaxes the mind. And above all cat pose improves blood circulation.
